Gamblin Artist Grade Oils - Transparent Earth Red

Transparent Earth Red is a transparent orange-brown. It is very good for glaze and multiple layered applications where transparency is valued and opacity might be a hinderance. 

All browns are excellent starting points for all shade and tones. You can also mute high key colours by starting this way, with just a tiny amount of brown, then adding the particular primary. Keep adding tiny bits of any primary colours that seem to be missing compared to your destination colour, until you strike the right balance.

Mix browns with Ultramarine or Phthalo Blue, and it creates very good, interesting blacks. This particular brown makes them particularly luscious, because of the richness of its transparency.
